Project Civil Engineer—Las Cruces, New Mexico

SUMMARY: Immediate opening for a self-motivated coordinator of an environmental team, able to establish and maintain good client relationships. Plans, designs, and manages environmental projects from proposal to completion. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's or advanced degree in geology (or related field, e.g., hydrology, geochemistry, geophysics) or environmental engineering from an accredited four-year college or university and a minimum of seven years of relevant experience not associated with completion of an advanced degree. Most recent three years will be spent acting as a project manager (managing contact with clients, staff/techs, regulatory agencies, and funding agencies) or senior manager (responsibilities of a project manager plus staff management). Relevant experience is to include each: petroleum storage tank investigation and remediation; National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation development and public meetings; solid waste management (this is focused on groundwater and methane monitoring rather than landfill design); environmental site assessments (Phases I, II and III ESAs); Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plans; Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP or SWP3). Additional background in storm drainage analysis and design, site development, subdivision, and roadway design is preferable. Additional skills must include: demonstrated good writing and verbal communication; reasonable abilities with MS Office programs; familiarity with a computer network environment; multi-tasking ability for technical projects. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must be a registered P.G. in Arizona or Texas, or have the ability to achieve P.G. status in Texas within three months. Preference given to candidates with additional P.E. status in New Mexico or Arizona and/or LPST Project Manager registration in Texas. Must have a valid driver license with insurable driving record. Must be able to complete overnight site visits for project meetings and/or proposals. The position will report primarily to the regional environmental line manager and will likely be assigned two full-time and two part-time staff to directly manage and review produced documents. The position will also likely be allowed (and encouraged, depending on skill set) to pursue market development activities and will be responsible for project management of their own assigned projects. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must be a registered P.E. in New Mexico or have the ability to achieve P.E. status in New Mexico within one year. Must have a valid drivers license with insurable driving record. Must be able to complete overnight site visits for project meetings and/or proposals.
