SMA Helps Secure Colorado Recycling Resources Economic Opportunity (RREO) Grant

November 28th, 2016

SMA knows that minimizing the amount of waste sent to landfill starts with a solid plan and some funding to launch the effort.

Luckily, the recent grant application was successful and SMA will support a client in Colorado on this effort.

SMA drafted and submitted a grant to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment seeking funding to complete regional studies that will identify existing waste diversion activities, suggest ways to coordinate waste diversion activities to maximize economic efficiencies and establish goals to guide further efforts.

The grant is available to councils of government, city or county governments, regional community groups and colleges or universities.

The intent of the grant is to fund proposals that examine how existing waste diversion activates can be better coordinated in a defined region with the intent to maximize waste diversion in the future.  This will include conducting waste audits or surveys, identifying key stakeholders and convening stakeholder meetings, and identifying existing and future infrastructure needs and potential policy changes.
