SMA at Groundbreaking Expanding La Luz Convenience Center, Otero County NM

November 21st, 2016

SMA attended the groundbreaking ceremony for Phase I of the new transfer station to be constructed near La Luz in Otero County, NM. The first phase of the project, which includes many outdoor disposal and safety improvements, has taken almost two years in design, stemming partially from areas of buried waste throughout the subject property that were previously unidentified. The second phase of the project will include a full multi-level transfer station building. Included in the picture are a representative of the contractor, two County Commissioners, the County Solid Waste manager, County Manager, frequent SMA subcontractor Joe Lewandowski (2nd from the left) and SMA engineer Paul Pompeo (far right).

The La Luz Convenience Center is a $1.8 million project and is one of four manned convenience centers in the county.
