Bleimeyer Communications Tower NEPA Completed by SMA

Updated Fri, Mar 16th, 2012

The Bleimeyer Communications Tower project is intended to fill in a critical part of the radio communications network along the southwest international boundary for Doña Ana County as well as other governmental agencies.  As part of this project SMA was contracted to complete a Bureau of Land Management (BLM)-compliant NEPA environmental information document with a cultural resources survey and a biological evaluation. The location of the tower is on a fairly remote mountain peak located west of Sunland Park, New Mexico, within line of sight of the border with the Republic of Mexico. The rugged terrain of the area as well as some known cultural resources added a degree of complication to the project. Ultimately, some minor excavations of several identified cultural resources were required in order to provide adequate access for construction.

SMA has provided engineering, environmental and surveying services to Doña Ana County for nearly 15 years and was proud to be part of this project to increase the safety and availability of emergency services along the border.
