ALTA/ACSM Land Title Surveys

As a benefit to the public, the survey profession, title insurers, and abstracters, The  American Congress on Surveying and Mapping (ACSM) and the National Society of Professional Surveyors, Inc. (NSPS), have worked with the American Land Title Association (ALTA®) to create general standards for surveys. Also developed were Accuracy Standards to address issues such as Positional Uncertainty and Minimum Angle, Distance and Closure Requirements for the ALTA®-ACSM Land Title Surveys.

These very detailed surveys are generally used for public, commercial and industrial properties to show all encumbrances that affect a certain parcel of land, usually from a title commitment prepared by the title company involved in the land transaction.
