Four New Members Join Board of Directors

(Santa Fe, New Mexico) – Four new members have joined the Board of Directors for Souder, Miller & Associates (SMA), which is now comprised of three external and four internal members.  This addition expands SMA’s reach, diversity, and insight into providing value to the communities we serve.

SMA’s focus includes seeking ways to improve and increase capacity in communities and assisting clients with a broad range of services that all fit together to create positive impacts. Dr. Hensley, Dr. Luarkie, Jamie Claire Kiser, J.D., and David Wilson, P.E. all bring significant contributions to this overarching goal.”

Dr. Michael Hensley is Director of Strategic Research Initiatives for the Research and Economic Development Division at the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology.  During the past eleven years, he has managed projects funded by the Department of Energy, the Department of State, and the Department of Homeland Security. Hensley received his Ed.D. in Technology Education from Virginia Tech and did post-doctoral study in Organizational Communications at the John F. Kennedy School at Harvard University.  He received his M.S. and B.A.S. in History and Economics from Western New Mexico University.

Dr. Richard Luarkie is presently the CEO of Emerging Equities Solutions Group.  He has served two-terms as the Governor for the Pueblo of Laguna and professional experience range including being a small business owner to working for large, international companies. Dr. Luarkie has a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of New Mexico, a Masters of Business Administration from New Mexico State University, and a Ph.D. from Arizona State University-School of Social Transformation.

Jamie Claire Kiser is presently the Director of Consulting at Zweig Group, a research, publishing, & consulting firm for the AEC industry. She brings experience in financial analysis, evaluating transactions, and creative solutions for the financial needs of architecture, engineering, & environmental firms. Prior to joining Zweig Group, Ms. Kiser worked in commercial banking, managing the bank’s credit department. She holds a Masters of Business Administration, Juris Doctor, and Bachelors of Arts in History, all from the University of Arkansas. Ms. Kiser is a licensed attorney.

Mr. David Wilson, P.E. is currently SMA employee and has over 24 years of experience in the planning, design and construction of roadways, highways, intersections, interchanges, and related infrastructure. He is a Senior Engineer at SMA and manages the traffic and transportation staff. He interacts directly with public and private sector clients to identify needs and provide innovative and cost-effective solutions. Mr. Wilson completed a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering and a MBA, both from the University of New Mexico.

“SMA is looking forward to another strong year providing clients with our broad range of engineering, environmental and surveying services in a sustainable and socially conscious manner,” said Peter Fant. “This includes continuing the SMA STEM scholarship programs for Native American high school and undergraduate students, continuing support for WEFTA, Water Engineers For The Americas, a non-profit organization geared towards alleviating unsafe water supplies in Latin and South America, and serving clients with support in navigating opportunities for local, state and federal funding. This year’s board will be pivotal to SMA’s continued overall success.”

SMA’s team includes professional engineers, professional surveyors, professional geologists and hydrogeologists, soil scientists, surveyors, certified floodplain managers, environmental professionals, GIS/CAD operators, construction observers and support staff. Seven offices in New Mexico, as well as branch offices in Arizona, Colorado, Texas and Utah provide a base for more than 200 employee-owners to improve their communities.
