SMA has completed many substantial roadway and highway projects throughout the region, including parking lot and driveway design for a variety of structures and commercial development sites. SMA provides data collection, design, stormwater calculations, environmental support, bidding, construction staking, construction observation, project management and development of as-constructed record diagrams. Clients have included the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT), Arizona DOT, Colorado DOT, Texas DOT, counties, cities, towns, villages, tribes/pueblos, public schools, engineering consulting firms and private entities. Our recent roadway design experience includes rural arterial and collector streets in difficult soil and topographic conditions, development/design of traffic circles, urban arterial and collector streets and signalized intersections of state highways.
Specific project tasks include feasibility studies, alignment alternative design, utility extension design/utility coordination, right-of-way maps, historical/cultural/biological reports, curb-and-gutter design, sidewalk/bicycle path design, landscape design coordination, structural design, parking lot and driveway design and public information meetings, as well as surveying and stormwater drainage analysis and design.
SMA staff members have completed a wide variety of transportation engineering projects from traffic impact studies and transportation modeling studies to intersection signalization and bridge design, from smaller community roads to segments of state highway extending over 20 miles. Clients have included the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT), Arizona DOT, Colorado DOT, numerous counties in New Mexico, Arizona and Colorado, construction companies, and development companies. The SMA team has extensive experience in traffic operations analysis. Our team uses traffic analysis programs to analyze highway capacity, from signalized and non-signalized intersections to freeway, ramp, and weave analyses. If requested by the County, SMA can develop traffic simulations using VISSIM or SYNCHRO SIMTRAFFIC for use at public meetings to demonstrate alternative analyses or to compare a wide range of roadway network alternatives. The SMA team has developed signal system coordination (progression) and signal timing plans using the SYNCHRO, TRANSYT7F, and PASSER software programs. SMA has also performed numerous analyses and design for roundabout intersection control.
