Engineering, Environmental, Geomatics, and Litigation Support Services
Souder, Miller & Associates (SMA) provides engineering, environmental, geomatics, and technical consulting services for public, private, tribal, industrial, and legal clients across the Mountain West and, for selected services, throughout the western United States to the Pacific Coast. Since 1985, SMA has helped clients plan, permit, design, investigate, improve, document, and defend infrastructure and land-based projects that support communities, development, transportation, utilities, natural resources, and regulatory compliance.
Our multidisciplinary teams provide practical, coordinated support across six primary service areas:
Water Resources
SMA provides water resources engineering, planning, and design services for water, wastewater, stormwater, drainage, and utility infrastructure projects. Our team supports communities, utilities, public agencies, developers, and industrial clients with system planning, preliminary engineering reports, funding support, regulatory coordination, water distribution, wastewater collection and treatment, stormwater management, hydraulic performance analysis, asset management, and related infrastructure improvements.
Civil Engineering
SMA’s civil engineering services support public infrastructure, private development, subdivisions, site development, grading and drainage, utility design, structural coordination, construction-phase services, and infrastructure master planning. By integrating civil engineering with environmental, geomatics, transportation, and water resources expertise, SMA helps clients address permitting, site constraints, constructability, utility conflicts, drainage, access, and long-term project performance.
Transportation
SMA provides transportation engineering and planning services for roadways, streets, intersections, trails, traffic improvements, safety upgrades, transportation feasibility studies, permitting, right-of-way coordination, drainage, utility coordination, and construction support. Our transportation professionals help public agencies, tribal governments, local communities, and private clients improve mobility, access, safety, and infrastructure reliability.
Geomatics
SMA’s geomatics services provide the survey, mapping, GIS, UAV, and subsurface utility information needed for planning, design, construction, asset management, and land development. Services include boundary and topographic surveying, ALTA/NSPS surveys, construction staking, right-of-way and easement surveys, GIS mapping and analysis, web maps, mobile applications, UAV/drone data collection, and subsurface utility engineering and utility location support.
Environmental
SMA provides environmental consulting, compliance, investigation, remediation, monitoring, permitting, planning, and reporting services for public-sector, tribal, industrial, commercial, utility, and development clients. Our environmental professionals support Phase I, II, and III Environmental Site Assessments, soil and groundwater investigation and remediation, solid waste planning and permitting, spill prevention and response, stormwater compliance, NEPA support, petroleum storage tank services, monitoring well installation, regulatory coordination, and long-term compliance management.
